The Owners
The Dad
Graham John Hill is an engineer by profession but a Bee Keeper by passion.
He became interested in Bees and Beekeeping 35 years ago and produced a small amount of honey from personal hives. The name “My Dad’s Honey” is birthed out of his children saying to their friends, “You should taste my dad’s honey!”
He started by being more interested in the pollination side of honey, but in the last 10 years the honey production has increased into a very profitable (nature-permitting) honey business with exports going as far as Taiwan.
The Mom
Debbie Hill, a retired nurse, married Graham at the end of 2012. Since then, she has taken up the admin, sales, and delivery side of My Dad’s Honey.
Debbie sells honey at their home (6 Tharina Street, Somerset West) during the week.
Our Staff
Carpenter and Beekeeper
Solly has been with Graham for 15 years.
He is our carpenter and makes all our hives.
He has been skilled by a Master Carpenter, Dennis Simpson, who lets us hire his shop for Solly to cut the wood to size. The hives are then assembled at the bee-room.
Solly is also an accomplished beekeeper and helps when needed in the field.
Responsible for bottling honey products and distribution
Sbu has been with My Dad’s Honey for 3 years.
His primary role is bottling, labeling and distribution of honey.
Sbu accompanies Debbie on the weekly delivery and has developed a rapport with the customers.
He is also responsible for the general maintenance and cleanliness of the bee-room.
Honey Extractor
Victor has been with My Dad’s Honey for 5 years.
He is responsible mainly for extracting the honey from the frames and putting it into buckets ready for bottling.
He also does hive maintenance and general work around the Bee Room. When necessary, he is very useful in the field.
Beekeeper
Thandikile has been with My Dads Honey for 10 years.
He is a general worker, and usually helps out in the field harvesting honey. He is works well at assembling hives, bottling honey and general maintenence.
Vincent is our newest employee and is learning with Graham to do Bee Keeping, Hive maintenance and driving.
Because of previous mechanical training, he also helps with the maintenance of the vehicles.
He is married to Jo and they have 3 children.
